Here in the dead of winter on Long Island, we are having one of our coldest winters ever, as the island is in a deep freeze.
So what better way to warm up than with a good homebrew? Lucky for us our take at a winter warmer homebrew is ready to drink and help us warm up a bit.
To create a more full bodied ale, we added some chocolate and caramel malts. We then added a generous amount of cinnamon and nutmeg to the boil to really create a warm brew for those cold nights.
The result? A strong cinnamon and nutmeg flavor and aroma was pleasant and warming. However, the body of the beer wasn’t as full as we would have liked, and felt a little weak in comparison to some of the strong flavors. Overall, an enjoyable beer on a cold day, and we already have some good ideas to tweak for the next variation to increase the body of this winter warmer!
Cheers and stay warm!
